KABA-DC Applauds Nomination of Hon. Lucy H. Koh to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

September 11, 2021

Korean American Bar Association of Washington DC (KABA-DC) extends its congratulations to Hon. Lucy H. Koh on her re-nomination to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. If confirmed, Judge Koh – who is currently on the bench of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California – would become the first Korean American woman to serve as a federal appellate judge and second Korean American following Judge Herbert Choy, who served from 1971 to 1984.

Judge Koh is eminently well-qualified for the Ninth Circuit. As a judge in the San Francisco Bay Area, Judge Koh has presided over many high profile cases involving the cutting edge of technology, including Federal Trade Commission v. Qualcomm and Apple v. Samsung Electronics. KABA-DC applauds the decision of President Joe Biden to re-nominate Judge Koh to the Ninth Circuit despite the the failure to get a vote before the full Senate following the vote of approval by the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2016, and urges the Senate to focus on Judge Koh’s qualifications and vote on her nomination expeditiously.
