KABA-DC CONGRATULATES FOUR KOREAN AMERICAN MEMBERS OF THE 117TH CONGRESS

2020-11-17

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 17, 2020

The Korean American Bar Association of Washington DC extends its warm congratulations to Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ 03) for his re-election, and to Young Kim (R-CA 39), Michelle Park Steel (R-CA 48), and Marilyn Strickland (D-WA 10) for their election to the 117th Congress following the November 3, 2020 elections.

The election of the four Korean American members of the Congress is a historic occasion that shows the breadth and depth of the community. The 2020 election is the first time that multiple Korean American members will sit in the House of Representatives.  The four members, two Democrats and two Republicans, represent both sides of the partisan spectrum.  The three new members are women; this is the first time that a Korean American woman has been elected to Congress. Furthermore, Ms. Strickland, who is both Korean American and African American, represents the growing ethnic diversity within the Korean American community.

KABA-DC wishes continued success to Mr. Kim, Ms. Kim, Ms. Steel and Ms. Strickland, and looks forward to our community’s greater representation in political life.
